HFS HYDRO FORMING SYSTEM
We don’t use the highly engineered forming-process HYDRO FORMING SYSTEM, (where tubes of our top-alloy PROLITE 66 are formed against complex negative-tools assuming their shape by having hot oil pumped with enormous, hydraulic pressure into the tube-interior), only to create a beautiful form.
Sure, the achievement of an attractive and unique design of aluminium frames is a pivotal aspect. But it is as important to us, to combine visual appearance and performance in an optimal ratio by the intelligent design of the HFS-frame. The highly stressed head-tube area is the most beautiful proof: stress-oriented, the enlarged crosssections of the connecting tubes are combined within one optical unit, with the help of only a few welding lines and perfect tube-crossovers. Absolutely free of chattering, with great safety backup and impressive light weight.
With the edgy, rectangular shaped and oversized down tube, the concave side-walls and the new HFS- head tube, we continue with the distinctive visual appearance of the Merida Carbon-frame. Of course, beside visual aspects, we take the technical advantages of these shapes: High bottom bracket and torsional rigidity with enormous safetyreserves.
Carbon fork
Front fork made of carbon composite material; at some models 100% made of carbon composite.
EGG-SHAPED
Egg-shaped head tube with 50 mm base diameter and enlarged cross section in the middle of the tube, improves the steering precision and optimises vibration safety.
ROBOT WELDING BY MERIDA
Technology
Merida is the only frame-building company that uses this complex technology for welding bikeframes made out of aluminium.
Different to conventional handmade frames, welding- robots always work with the same precision; they don’t know tempers and headaches. Experienced welding-engineers arrange the set-up of the welding-robots thoroughly and observe the process continuously.
We control the consistency of the welding with spot samples. The results are convincing: Robot-welded frames are permanently at a higher level of strength than handmade aluminium frames. In addition to that the welding-structure is absolutely consistent. On higher level frame-models, we optimize the welds with a further operation: the Smooth Welding process provides, through a second welding run without using a welding-rod, smooth and shapely joins of the highest stability.
That is why you can feel certain that at Merida, perfectly welded aluminium-frames are born.
